ABOUT CAPTAIN JEFF BECKER |
|
I grew up on Long Island and spent my youth fishing between Western Long Island Sound and the East End.
I got my first boat at age of 13, and my favorite thing to do was to chase striped bass and blues while they were surface feeding. After high school I worked as a mate on a head boat for 2 years. I continued to split my time fishing between Western and Eastern Long Island until 1986. I got sick of running the boat out East every fall or new moon for big bass, and I took the boat out east permanently never looking back. I spent 1986 through 1990 fishing around Orient Point, specifically targeting big fish on conventional tackle when I realized what an awesome unexploited light tackle fishery it was. I always loved to fly fish, and in 1992 I changed my focus from bait at night to flies in the light. I have been fly guiding for 12 years now, and in that time I have done two TV shows with the “Reel Guys” on ESPN 2, and another with Tim Rajeff on the “LL Bean Guide to the Outdoors” TV show. I'm also happy to be a member of the Scott Fly Rod, Hatch and Hobie Pro Staff, as well as a Flyfishing Ambassador for Patagonia. I can finally say I have found my niche fishing the North Fork of Long Island. My season runs from May through November and targets striped bass, blues, bonito and false albacore. Life is Good! |
